It's so hard to believe it but we are already celebrating another birthday. We've had our ups and downs over the years but through it all you guys have stuck by us through thick and thin and I thank you all so much. We will have a few different events throughout the week. One example would be some live chats. A few of us have some other things we will be doing that you won't want to miss.

*passses slices of cake out to everyone*

    PARTAY! :birthday: :disco:

A lot of people have been posting about their posting milestones. So, I thought I'd a) alert you to the fact that I have made 1,000 posts on CC as of right now, and b) blow all the other "I have 200 posts" topics out of the water. In a non-snobby way, of course. Cool

So, thank you, everyone, for being a great community for me to spend way too much time on. I really enjoy CC a lot, and I hope to see it grow into an even bigger and better site as the CC Refresh progresses.

    Ubuntu Netbook! :D :D :D
As I mentioned in the April Fool's Day topic, my prank is going to include reversable computer sabotage. Because none of my family members are on CC (yet), I thought I'd post my plan on here for you guys to see. If you want, you could try it yourself.

The target is the family general-purpose PC, which runs Linux Mint. The prank is I'm going to try to trick people into thinking I've installed Ubuntu Netbook Edition on it. For those of you who don't know the deal with Ubuntu netbook, it's pretty much just the most hated version of Ubuntu ever. Here's a screenshot:

I just went on a little journey of clicking the "next blog" thingy on blogger blogs, to check out some random blogs. I noticed some things that most blogs had in common.

    1. A *lot* of the most recent posts on many blogs were something along the lines of, "My new blog is here! (link)". Mostly photography blogs do this.

    2. A lot of blogs are about jewelry. And most blogs misspelled jewelry, on top of that.

    3. Hardly any blogs have switched to the new G+ like layout for blogs. My (real) blog is still on one of the old layouts, too.

    4. People like to set...

I'm writing a novel. I'll be done with writing when the (long) novel is done. Mad

But, it'll be worth it. Smile

I'll post a PDF or something when I'm done. It's pretty interesting so far, but if I'm not online much on weekdays, that's why. I've decided not to write anything for it on weekends, so I will be here for sure then. But, I'll probably have to limit my CC time to after 7:00PM EDT.

    Hey, at least I might...

Well, it's π day. Very Happy

I usually don't bother celebrating geeky holidays, but this one's just plain cool. I don't know, I just have an irrational love for mathematical constants. π is one of the best ones out there, because it's just so useful.

So, remember π today. Maybe find the area of a circle with a radius of your age in months, or something. Just have some fun with π!

Oh, you ask why I'm using a serif font? It's because π looks horrible...

Well, we've got the teams set to go. The election is upon us, and it's pretty much the only thing I can think about right now. So, I'll share my thoughts.

Firstly, we've got a lot of teams running. I wasn't expecting this many, but I think it's great. I haven't a clue as to who will win, but I know that the majority of teams won't make it.

Even though serious campaigning for votes hasn't started yet, I already know which team I'm voting for. As an admin, I don't want to endorse any teams officially, but I do think that some teams would do better than others.

    Also,...

A while ago, I wrote up a list of things I wanted, and then boiled it down to the core desires. So, things like, "I want an Intel Core i7-3970X" would morph into, "I want people to be impressed with what I have or can do".

After some work, I came up with four things I really want.

    • I want to feel loved (or, I want to have true friends).

    • I want to have work, and responsibility.

    • I want things to challenge my mind.

    • I want to be creative, to make things worth making, to have a positive and lasting impact on the world.

    Discussion recommended. :)
Campbell County is a unique place, that's for sure. But, what is it, specifically, that makes CC special and unique? Why do you guys keep coming back?

I like to think that CC is unique because of the people here. Without you guys, CC would be pretty pointless.

But, what do you guys think? Why is CC so amazing?

First, an update that changes how I see CC. I'm doing a Linux challenge, where I use only Linux for thirty days. So, I should be able to preform all my CC duties as normal, but there's always that chance that something might come up, threatening my ability to do that. Just thought you guys should know. Smile

Also, I'm going dual monitors, now. The problem is, I can't change which one is the default, and the default is a little dimmer than the secondary (both are on max brightness).

As you probably have guessed, I'm a cat lover. I'm just so glad God created these little furry creatures.

Sometime soon, my family is adopting a second cat. Our current kitty, Dorothy, needs a little buddy to help her out. The idea is that a friend would help ease Dorothy out of her current antisocial mindset.

The coolest part about this is that my room is going to be new kitty headquarters. The only other suitable locations are spoken for by Dorothy, so we're going to use a room she doesn't like as the new kitty's home.

So, I'm transforming my messy room into a...

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I'm going to start live streaming when I play video games. You can stalk me while I play here: http://www.twitch.tv/ryanhoots

I may do a live State of the County Address on Twitch, too. Mabye another CCWN Live?

Either way, if you want to watch me be a n00b at minecraft, be my guest. I really freak out when a mob comes out of nowhere. You can also follow my stream to get an email when I start playing.

(If you're reading this just after I post it, you'll...

Yeah, I've had an account for a while, but I add my mom as a friend today at her (real life) request, and before I know it I have 43 emails from facebook saying people want to be my friend. THIS IS MADNESS! Panic

So yeah, I hated Facebook before, now I hate it more. But, I'm going to stay on it until I have enough hard data to write a full report on how bad it is.

If you want to help torture talk to me, here's the linky:

Recently, I decided to stop using my Teen's Study Bible, in favor of my ESV Study Bible. Why? Because the Teen Study Bible really earned that "Teen" label. Sure, the actual biblical text in it is awesome, but the "other" stuff, the sidenotes and study pages, were written for your average american teen. You can't open the book without feeling like the people who put it together think you're an idiot who doesn't know anything more than a ten year old would.

Of course, because my study bible is the book I read the most, I got inundated with negative feelings from what should be a positive...

I wonder how many of you know what the ALX driver is. I didn't until earlier this month.
    [rant]

Right now, I'm typing this from my Linux computer. As you may or may not know, my computer talks to the internet through a little chip on the motherboard known as a NIC, or Network Interface Controller. My NIC requires a certain driver to work. This driver is known as the ALX driver, and it is specific to my hardware.

However, ALX isn't included in the Linux kernel, or any mainstream distributions, for that matter. Other NIC drivers are, but not ALX. Why? ALX is brand new. I have the latest and greatest hardware, and the developers of Linux haven't had time to get ALX...

Remember that "State of the County" I did a while ago? Well, I was thinking I should start doing those regularly.

Also, do you remember my promise of video blog posts? I said I'd do it as soon as I could, and I know I can now. So, would you guys like it if I recorded State of the County addresses every month or so, and posted them in the Weekly News category?

Video quality would be bad, but hopefully tolerable. Smile

I was doing my schoolwork today, and I thought this was on-topic enough to post here.

What are some things you hope science accomplishes in your lifetime?

    Warp Drive.
Odyssey Class ships (Aventine Class would be better, though).
    Lightsabers.
    Nether Portals.
A worthy heir to the empty throne of the Concorde.
An actually usable OS that has more than just 1% of the desktop market.
    A 64-Core 128-Bit CPU that runs at 1THz.
    DDR9
    Linux 4.0.0
    Minecraft 2.0
A unified theory of Quarks, Bosons, Maysons, and Baryons that...

I'm not sure what's worse- the fact that I'm a Dell fanboy, or that I'm probably the only one.
I'm using a Dell computer to type this post. My personal LAMP servers are Dells. In fact, I usually refuse to purchase any computer that's not made by Dell.

Why is this? It's because of an old statistic I discovered a few years ago: 100% of working computers in my house were Dell, and 100% of broken computers in my house were HP, Toshiba, or something other than Dell. In fact, I once got a Compaq laptop, which died within a week. My replacement was a Dell, and it's still going strong.

Of course, this statistic isn't true anymore. My dad has an Acer Chromebook, and it's obviously...

It's been a while since I posted in this blog, or any other blog, for that matter. I've been having computer related issues, so I've been spending a lot of time fixing my computers. First, my laptop's speed decreases by about a gigahertz, then my desktop PC needs to get its motherboard replaced, and then my server dies. So, yeah, I've been fixing stuff a lot around here.

My laptop's doing okay, but I'm trying not to depend on it. Hard to do when it's the only PC I have that can run a web browser.

My desktop's motherboard is currently in the RMA (return to manufacturer) process....

Well, it's done! What was possibly the biggest project of my life has been completed. My new PC is up and running perfectly. Very Happy

I'm still getting Windows 7 up to date, but things are going smoothly.
