Well I just mean that he should have taken his own advice and done just that. he lived during a very exciting period in History but approached everything with extreme caution. IE when he freed the slaves, it was because he was sure that the north was going to win the war. His goal was to preserve the union no matter what and he him self said that if he could free all the slaves and do it he would, but he also said that if all the slaves had to stay captive but the union be preserved he'd do that to. He should've freed the slaves when the union army was at its lowest. It just would've been more daring.
