Basically because they are so rare. So you are lucky to find one. And from there superstition has an easy path.

Interesting. So, um, if I'm a Christian... why didn't I know about this "Christian legend" before now?http://www.lucky-four-leaf-clover.com/what.html wrote:According to Christian legend, Eve is said to have carried a four-leaf clover with her when she left the Garden of Eden. That means that anyone who has one can claim to hold a bit of Paradise.
Although it is a good reminder of the cross, lucky for its resemblance of the cross is just... crazy, insane (? not sure which adjective to use, but you get the point).http://www.lucky-four-leaf-clover.com/what.html wrote:Christians also viewed the four-leaf clover as lucky for its resemblance to the cross.
Why? Not that it's bad or anything, I'm just curious...http://www.lucky-four-leaf-clover.com/what.html wrote:Some even believe that the fourth leaf symbolizes the Grace of God.
I guess this explains the third quote a bit more. But still, I am curious as to why it represents God's grace. I mean... it could represent God's love, mercy, forgiveness, or anything else.http://voices.yahoo.com/25-four-leaf-clovers-facts-may-not-know-6254310.html wrote:3. According to Irish legend, St. Patrick used the Shamrock's three leaves to teach the pagans about Christianity. It symbolized the Holy Trinity with each leaf representing the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. When it's found with the additonal fourth leaf represents God's Grace.
That's very interesting!http://voices.yahoo.com/25-four-leaf-clovers-facts-may-not-know-6254310.html wrote:11. A shamrock is considered to be a young clover. Clovers are in the same family as peas.
Contradiction:
http://voices.yahoo.com/25-four-leaf-clovers-facts-may-not-know-6254310.html wrote:13. ...It's generally thought that more leafs; the luckier it is.
http://voices.yahoo.com/25-four-leaf-clovers-facts-may-not-know-6254310.html wrote:However, the Irish also believe that while finding a four-leaf clover will bring you good luck, finding a clover stem with 5 or more leaves is actually unlucky!

I'm just wondering, has anybody actually found a four-leaf clover? My father found one once while weeding my Mother's flower bed. It was actually two four-leaf clover heads on the same plant!

Oh, I have! This is actually a fun little 'tradition' my little sister and I have. Whenever we go to my grandparents, or my aunts house, we always go looking for arrowheads and fourleaf clovers. Not because we think they're lucky or a real treasure, it's just that they're so rare to find, that it's fun to look. I think we've both out grown a lot of our little 'traditiond' over the years, but that's one that we like to really 'kid-out' on.

@Sunny:
The reason you probably haven't heard these is because they are a matter of legend, passed along probably in Ireland by the Catholics there.
"The Grace of God" is an extremely wide term that encompasses many things. Grace is a gift that we don't deserve. Since we as sinful humans don't inherently deserve ANYTHING good, anything good that we get is grace. Love, mercy, forgiveness, etc are all specific acts of grace on God's part.
I didn't notice that contradiction! Good eye!
